From Farm to the finishing line
Ascot has been the scene of many victories for Manor Farm Stud graduates. Orient broke the five-furlong track record there and her son Orientor, a tough competitor who has raced no fewer than 70 times, won the Shergar Cup Sprint in 2001.
Atraf’s win at Royal Ascot was one of three winners at the meeting that year for the stud which resulted in Manor Farm Stud being acknowledged with the prestigious Thoroughbred Breeders Association Flat Breeder of the Year Award (the first of two TBA awards). Tessa puts their success down to picking stallions they liked as racehorses and most of all the quality Rutland grass, although one can’t help feeling a certain amount of knowledge has been picked up over the years.
